Hair Care Hacks for Low Maintenance People
If you are the kind of person who rolls out of bed and barely runs a brush through your tresses then this is the article for you. Messy ponytails, dime-store shampoo, a haircut once every three years – we feel you. Haircare can be a long and arduous ride, especially if your bonce refuses to bond. Instagram is brimming with tutorials and tips on how to weave your hair into Viking plaits or upcycle your broken coat hanger into a curling iron, but for those who can barely work a bun out, these haircare hacks are certainly more up your street…
Dry Shampoo is God
If you have fine hair that tends to look slick by noon no matter how much you wash it then dry shampoo is about to be your greatest god. A quick spritz on the roots of this stuff and the formula works by absorbing those excess oils bringing a freshly washed lightness. Of course, this doesn’t mean you get to avoid washing your hair forevermore but it does help to fill in the gaps and keep you from feeling like a glut of olive oil has been dumped on your head.
Condition the Ends
It may sound like an old wives tale but another tip for those who struggle with oily hair is to only condition the ends. If you go OTT with your conditioner than you are adding weight and extra oil to your hair. It’s quoted to only use a coin-sized squirt of conditioner and to massage into the ends only.
Braid for a Beachy Look
If you cannot be bothered plugging those high-maintenance curling irons in, then simply put your hair into a braid after showering and let it air dry. When your hair is finally dry, you can undo the braid and enjoy super easy and sexy wavy hair that add to that just rolled out of saltwater look. Or if you'd like, you can throw the braid into a scrunchie for a trendy scrunchie hairstyle look.
Get a Silk Pillowcase
If you are one of those people who wakes up each day looking like you have been dragged through a hedge backwards then we suggest you invest in a silk pillowcase. A silk pillowcase (far from being just a bed-down luxury) works wonders as it means that even when you toss and turn, your hair simply glides on the pillow rather than becoming tangled and matted by the cotton or polyester fibres. As an added bonus, if you suffer night sweats (leading to drenched and oily morning hair), silk pillows will once again sort this for you.
If you are blessed with a curly head of hair but hate the maintenance that goes into keeping them frizz-free, then try the pineapple method before bed. Loosely gather all your curls onto the highest point of your head and fix there while you sleep or until you are ready to shake it out and enjoy protected curl patterns with volume that hasn’t been squished by sleeping.
Coconut Hair Mask
If you can’t be bothered investing in those pricey hair masks and salon treatments, simply rub a teaspoon of extra virgin coconut oil through your dry hair overnight and then wash it out in the morning with shampoo. This fatty fabulous treatment will leave tresses soft, smooth and smelling great with very little investment.
Get a Buzz Cut
If you are truly tired of all the haircare drama then the best hack ever is to simply get a buzz cut. Buzz cuts are super chic and beautifully brave and show off your amazing face and bone structure. Not to mention the fact that they always say the baldest woman in the room is the one in charge.
